Hexham Spook Night 2025: A Spellbinding Evening in the Heart of Town

As autumn settles in and October excitement begins to build, Hexham prepares for one of its favourite annual events — Spook Night. Soon, Beaumont Street, Market Place, the Abbey Grounds and the entire town centre will be buzzing with costumes, laughter, family-friendly frights and the fun fair, as the whole community comes together to celebrate Halloween in true Hexham style.

At The Beaumont Hotel, we’re right in the heart of the action. Whether you’re a local enjoying the festivities or visiting Hexham for the first time, our bar and restaurant offer a welcoming place to relax, enjoy a meal or drink and take in all the Spook Night excitement just outside our doors.

What Is Hexham Spook Night?

Hexham Spook Night is a spectacular community celebration that brings the town centre to life every autumn. Organised by Hexham Community Partnership and delivered in collaboration with local businesses, venues, council and the fun fair provider, this family-friendly event offers a fun-packed afternoon and evening for all ages.

From the bright lights and excitement of the fun fair — with everything from gentle children’s rides to stomach-churning thrills — to elaborate fancy dress competitions, pumpkin carving, spooky films at The Forum, and storytelling that’ll send shivers down your spine, there’s something for everyone. The best part? The whole event unfolds right on our doorstep, with Beaumont Street serving as one of the main hubs of activity.

“We’ve watched Spook Night grow into something truly special over the years. I remember when my children were small, dressing them up and wandering down Beaumont Street, their eyes wide with wonder at all the decorations and costumes. Now they’re young adults, and they still come home for Spook Night—it’s that kind of event.
There’s something magical about seeing your whole town come together, everyone in costume, everyone smiling. It’s community spirit at its absolute best, and being right in the middle of it at The Beaumont, we feel incredibly lucky to be part of this tradition.”

Top Tips for a Frightfully Good Time

Arrive Early
The event starts at 2:00 PM, and the earlier you arrive, the more you’ll experience. Plus, you’ll have time to explore before it gets too crowded or dark.

Dress Up—Really Dress Up
This is Hexham’s biggest fancy dress party of the year. Don’t hold back! The more creative, the better. Families who coordinate their costumes always steal the show.

Dress for October Weather
Northumberland in late October can be chilly and unpredictable. Layer your costumes over warm clothes, wear comfortable shoes, and bring waterproofs just in case!

Bring Cash
While some vendors may accept cards, cash ensures you can easily buy snacks, drinks, and funfair tickets throughout the evening.

Plan Your Photo Opportunities
With the Abbey as a backdrop and decorated streets all around, photo opportunities abound. Charge your phone or bring a camera and consider entering the photography competition.

For Families with Young Children

  • The event is family-friendly, but it does get busy. Establish a meeting point in case you get separated.
  • Younger children may find some elements genuinely spooky—gauge their comfort levels.
  • Consider bringing a pushchair for very young ones who’ll tire from all the walking.
